I recently read an article in the LA Times about mooncakes. Mooncakes are a specialty treat made for the Mid-Autumn Festival which coincides with the autumnal equinox. They come in both sweet and savory versions. After reading the article, I decided to do a quick search to see where you could find them in the Dallas area.

My search had turned up a restaurant in Richardson named Jeng Chi that also has a bakery up front so on Saturday we decided to drive up and try them out for a dinner of soup and dumplings and everything was really tasty. After dinner I could not resist buying a leftover mooncake to try. This one is pineapple and egg yolk. The pattern on top is quite pretty! It’s like a large fig newton texture, and the filling is pleasantly chewy and fruity, without being too sweet. Really fun to try something new!
